I found V article very intreresting, and I think she’s right.
Me, not being an american, it’s actually the opposite that’s true. I’m slim because i’m broke. I’m wouldn’t call myself poor, but I often have a lack of money because I have a shitty job that doesn’t pay very well.

This work mainly because of two reasons.
In Sweden, healthy food is cheap. I’m actually a really lacy person, and if it costed the same amount of money to eat fast food as it does to make it from scratch I would probably live of pizza. But since the same amount of money can get me thruh a week, or, if I spend it on pizza, a day, I am forced to chose the former option.
If i don’t have a lot of money, I live on vegetables and potatoes, which is not only quite healthy, but really really cheap (1 kg potatoes costs 0.03 us dollars, at least in the summer season).
There’s a lot of talk about the obesityproblem in the US, maybe they should try lowering the cost of real food?

The second reason is that I walk. This is not some personal, “I’m being healthy”-thing, I simply can’t afford a car. In sweden, living in the not so fancy part of a city, this is not a big deal. A lot of people living in a city don’t drive, why should I, there are busses and subways, and to get to the bus I have to walk, well, to get anywhere at all I have to walk. I understand this is a very european way of live, not so common in the states, where owning a car seems to be a necesity.

I am sure that if i moved to the states I would either become fat, or I would have to invest in a gymcard.
