Alex - looking at just those numbers, it does not seem so... if you consider that there are around 110 million households, that 5.2 billion you were talking to comes to only about 50$US per household...

Until you take out the households which are receiving the WIC aid... and the households which are not paying taxes. And the OTHER aid packages that are paid out, since WIC is not the only subsidy that is out there, by any means.

Oh.. and the money each of the states puts in from our state taxes.

And then you have to take into consideration that this is not about simply yanking the plug on the money, but in getting people to actually be productive members of society instead of leeching off of everyone else (and please note I am not talking about those who are legitimately in need for reasons beyond their control).

V (unless I am mistaken) is not talking about yanking funding from people who need it, but is talking about expecting people to be responsible for their own reproduction.

In the perfect world that we will never live in, if people did not have children they can not afford, expecting the rest of society to pay for their irresponsibility, it would not just be that 50$US that we would see... it would be the benefit in lower corrections costs, more efficient use of education funds, more resources which would be available for those who really ARE In need.

I have to disagree with V here because by complaining about how hardworking americans' tax dollars go to bottom feeders she grossly overestimated just how much of out tax dollars go to the bottom feeders. In 2006, the WIC budger was $5.204 billion. (Source: http://www.fns.usda.gov/wic/WIC-Fact-Sheet.pdf). On the other hand, the total budget of the federal government was $2,655 billion. (Source:http://www.gpoaccess.gov/usbudget/fy08/pdf/budget/tables.pdf)

5.204 / 2,655 * 100% = 0.196%

That's right, WIC takes up 0.196%, so no, getting rid of WIC will not reduce your taxes significantly.

The amount of tax dollars that goes to those kinds of programs (welfare etc) is less than 1% of the federal budget. So if you're thinking that it will decrease your taxes if she stops getting WIC coupons, you will be disappointed.
I don't know about you guys, but lots of people have been on support for short lengths of time, including my parent's when my dad got out of the Navy, and before he found a family wage job. It took a year or so (I was pretty little) but they haven't had any public support since (and neither have I).

I've been on and off the Pill for about six years now and I'm, amazingly, still without children. But then, I use it right.

what's the saying...if you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas?

I don't like anybody in this story. This young mother sounds unbearable. She believes she has a god-given right to entitlement to whatever she wants, when she wants it, and fuck you for not giving it to her fast enough. And she's got a victim mentality to go with it. No, a large family is not your god-given right if you can't afford it. I agree with you there.

But the cashier WAS being rude. If you resent being forced to pay for other people's children, then, make your voice heard with your vote, by pressuring the system to change through collective popular opinion. Insulting customers who come through your checkout line will not make the world a better place.

my thoughts on the matter are...ugh...I want nothing to do with any of them

oh yeah and all those women who didn't "mean" to get pregnant but are nobly sacrificing their own interests to raise the baby, simply because they believe abortion to be immoral...bullshit. They all wanted the baby. But if you admit it, you get everyone judging you for being an idiot, whereas if you claim it was an accident but you "owned up" to your mistake and "took responsibility" by siding with the pro-life folks - then you become a hero, not an idiot.

What a douchebag. Why even get pregnant a FOURTH time if you already need help with the FIRST three, and bratty three kids at that? It pisses me off.

My daughter, God help her, is a BRAT!!! Thank God my son has the temperment of Ghandi. I would LOVE to ignore my daughters extra needs she has as a more bratty kid and try to pop out 3 more like my son.

But the truth is if you have one kid with extra needs for time and attention to reign in their little bratty attitudes it isnt fair to the kid or the world to squat and drop out a bunch more who may be just as unruly. Of course you wouldnt be able to do the extra parenting these unruly kids need as your always pregnant with the next!!!

My husband is a first class in the Navy and we know we cant afford five kids. Thats WHY he got a vasectomy after our 2nd child was born!!!! It wouldnt be fair to keep having as many kids as we want and expect the world to foot the bill or to deal with their behavioral issues.

Serious, you cant expect everyone to pity you for being poor and respect your choices to breed and breed and breed nonstop.

Oh I see, when I say something about forced sterilization I'm evil but when anyone ELSE says it, it's a great idea *sigh* such is life.

I am ALL for helping those in need but that woman IS a bottom feeder and clearly a fucking moron. I completely agree with V here, what that woman is doing is irresponsible and selfish. I feel bad for her children, you know they'll end up the same way.

I think everyone should be "fixed" at birth. When you grow up and want children you should have to go through the same process people who adopt go through (which is very rigorous) and once approved a doctor will "unfix" you so that you can have a child. Does this seem inhumane? I don't know why they don't do this in countries where thousands of kids starve every day... neuter those people already.

"Yes, I was taking birth control. No, I’m sure I didn’t miss any days." The chances of that being true is less than 1%. That means there is a 99% chance that besides just being a leach she is a lying leach.

And the reason she is offended at being called a bottom feeder is because she is one.

I am sure the manager she complained to about taking care of it will take care of it by doing nothing.

She wants a big family but her kids are brats. If not for the money, then why does she want more kids?

Poltiicans and Hollywood have glamorized children rearing and having children to curry political favor with women. The reality is that having a lot of children was really about having a lot of free labor. If you look at demographics, once a country accumulates wealth, birth rates go down.

It is interesting to me that in China that couples are allowed to only have one child. If they want more than one, then they have to pay the government.

I am definitely pro-choice all the way around, and I choose not to have any of my taxes go to that bottom feeder. Oh, that's right, only women have choices when it comes to kids.
