VA: The Death Penalty Deters ME
Feb 15th, 2007
I know with 100% certainty that the death penalty does work as a deterrent against murder. I know this because I’m not in jail yet.
I’m serious. Give me immunity from […]
Original post: The Death Penalty Deters ME

Fuck yes!! Seriously, everybody who doesn’t have common sense would be gone from this earth if I had anything to say about it.
The death penalty doesn’t act as any more of a deterrant than 25-life in prison. This has been confirmed by the fact that despite using the death penalty, murder rates per capita have not decreased. I’m sure a quick google search will confirm this.
Also, I’d be more deterred by a life of isolation than death. Stop letting these prisoners talk to eachother and make friends and shit. Put ‘em in a small cell, feed ‘em, let ‘em outside for their hour a day (still alone), then shut ‘em back in their cell.
How kind and politically correct are we expected to be to violent offenders?
Why risk the death penalty when you can mentally torture a person for years anonymously with little or no chance of being caught? It may not be as satisfying as killing someone but it’s the next best thing.
VA: The death penalty obviously works because I haven’t killed anyone yet. Does anyone need more proof than that?
Nope. Works for me.
Legal costs do come in to play…
Is it cheaper to build prisons and house prisoners
or is it cheaper to go through all the legal bs involved
with appeals and all that jazz?
I’m asking you.
If I were a criminal, I would prefer euthanasia
to prison… but that’s just me.
Had I committed a capital offense, why would I want
to sit in a prison cell?
I’d forgo all appeals and lethally inject myself.
Good thing I’ve never committed a capital offense.
Is there a reason why some of you posters don’t just let the site perform the word-wrap for you, instead of hitting return and choosing where your lines end on your own?
I’ll give it shot…
Dupe post?

Translation: HAY LOOK AT ME GUYS, I TOLD U I WAS HARDKORE
I wonder sometimes how many Internet badasses would really commit murder if the chance presented itself. Some would, I’ve no doubt, especially with amnesty available, but I suspect even more would curl up into little balls and wet themselves before firing the first shot.
For doubleplusgoodfun, give those cell-phone reality-TV word-pants people guns too, and let them have a go at the people who annoy THEM the most. Maybe not so much fun for the Internet badasses anymore, but much more fair — and WAY more interesting for those of us who chose to invest in body armor and bulletproof windows instead.
he he he he….
who said anything about guns?
I thought we were talking about the death penalty
as a deterrent?
while i think it accurate to say the penalties deter people - the death penalty itself doesn’t do much to stop murder…since looking at the stats show that murder is equally retardedly high in american states with or without the actual death penalty.
but funny post besides that. :)
i also want to add that the world probably would be better off if we gave v immunity to reduce the american population by 70%
:)
I think Liz iz the real internet badass.
I mean that from all four chambers of my
heart E-liz-a-beth.
doesn’t Elizabeth translate into: true hardcore?
Cheer up Liz… it’s not that bad.
I’m right there with you, V. Right there.
In fact, I want to hear more types of people you’d gun down in a perfect world. Sometime tells me that this was not an exhaustive list.
In addition to those you already mentioned . . .
Multi-offense sex offenders- we all know if they’ve committed the crime more than once they can’t be rehabbed.
Those people who try to cut in front of you on the road and when you do let them in, well, they don’t fucking wave or acknowledge the fact that you slowed down to let their ungrateful ass in line. Bah.
Telemarketers.
People who call me at work when they know I am leaving the office in 5 minutes. Evil, evil, evil.
Parents who use leashes. Put down the latte and parent for Christ’s sake.
Surely there are dozens more.
What happened to funny, non-played out viewpoints and topics? The whole front page is meaningless garbage right now that millions of people trying to be funny, hard assed or insightful have said.
Isn’t life funny? I mean inherently.
Ok ok ok ok.. I remember the case of an American teenage boy in Singapore spray painting peoples cars because he was bored. The judicial system made his punishment 3 smacks with a wooden staff by a martial artist. Then, the media hyped it as abuse. And, somehow the stupid parents of the boy pleaded to save their child. Umm… would they rather have a redneck with a tree limb smack him? or better yet, an irate elderly woman with failing eyesight and a cast iron pan whack him? Too many concessions are made for the culprit and not the innocent. Yes, the system is failing.
Considering Australia was founded on convicts, that country is flourishing….. Generations have passed and their freedoms are well founded. I am sure their founders weren’t as felonious as the variety we have today. They’ve matured as a nation. Long live Oceania.
Do I agree that convicted people warrant cable tv, softer beds, better lighting to read, libraries, softer sheets and more appealing foods to appease their picky appetites? No.
Seems they receive rewards for the more heinous offenses.
Death penalty?
I like the Texas perspective. Hanging. No fuss, no mess.
Why is lethal injection humane? And, why are we being humane to someone that was quite inhumane when they committed their attrocities?
Yes, there are countless members of society that enjoy their “look at me” status by creating their own exclusive world which everyone else has to circumvent. My opinion is similar to V’s. Anal politically uncorrected individuals that ‘multitask’ while driving need to be prosecuted as a FELON. And, the government cannot understand why people have road rage. Put your makeup on at home, read the paper at work, buy an earpiece for your phone, pour your coffee before you leave the driveway, have your money ready before you get to the toll booth. Sheeshhhh.. And they consider themselves responsible adults. It’s called RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT. Next.
did anybody else notice the
“by 70% in a six months”
dont think there should be an “a” there
not really a big deal, but i read that like 3 times to make sure there wasn’t something i missed.
V you are so goth…..
I have no moral objection to the death penalty. There are people who, by their actions, have forfeited their right to live in our society.
But:
It IS cheaper to give them life-without-parole than it is to kill them, because of all the legal costs involved in the repeated appeals process.
Said repeated appeals process denies closure to the victims and their families. There are people that have been on death row for DECADES. And they have to have those wounds ripped open again and again as the appeals go through the system.
Plus, if you imprison someone, and find out later that they’re innocent, you can let them go. Hard to do if they’re dead. Look at how many people that modern-day DNA testing has freed lately.
So we’re supposed to gather everyone on earth who has committed
attrocities and just hang ‘em? That’s a lot of rope man. We better legalize hemp and start making that rope, huh?
@18 *high five*
on_with_living….sorry… Texas has pussed out as the whole country has. A quick little injection after 5+ years on death row with a final meal. I am all for old school hangings, shooting squads, electric chairs in town square. Bring it on. And quickly. You’re sentenced, You die. We are overpopulated as a nation already. So we may get a few innocent ones, DNA testing should eliminate most of the errors in the past convictions. Maybe make DNA a requirement to appease the liberal side…..ugghhh. Start making exceptions and you are led into what has caused the decline of our society…Take responsibility for your actions. Oh no…I can’t be held responsible for the decisions I make, so I drank and drove and killed some people, I have a disease. I robbed that bank because my daddy beat me. Forget the excuses, you commit a crime, you deserve punishment. No excuses for your pathetic life. Look at people in 3rd world countries, they live in huts, shit in a bucket, if they are lucky and DON’T kill their neighbors.
If our society actually held people responsible for their actions, required them to be self-reliant, maybe we wouldn’t need to legalize hemp to make all the rope. But until we require people to pay for their own mistakes, be it murder, drug use, obesity, etc., etc., start growing.
@21 computer says: good answer.
Though I normally like Violent Acres, I thought this was a pretty stupid post. V seems like a redneck.
I like to think I would act morally even if there we no laws.
@6
computer says: good answser.
Chewing gum while you talk to me? Goodbye.
Flick a cig butt out the car window? Pull over, you are not driving anywhere.
Rebel flag, and proud? And dead.
This is fun.
I’m glad you’re having fun there bossman.
how’s the tour going?
Wow, I thought this chick was supposed to be smart, but what a stupid thing to say. The point about deterrence is not if PRISON is a deterrence, but if the DEATH PENALTY, in addition to prison, is a deterrence. Obviously, if there were no consequences to one’s actions, we would do all sorts of shit. But does a particular additional punishment that applies to a very small segment of crimes (first degree murder) directly deter people from committing that very small segment of crimes? Studies say no.
@ bespeckled
oh yeah so that genocide in rwanda, chad, somalia and every other fucking african nation didn’t happen?? People kill people everywhere… people commit crime everywhere even with or without the death penalty.
In this age, why do we still have dictators?
Better yet, when a business is failing, you remove the CEO, CFO and all others that contribute to it’s failure. In saying this, why do we keep a president and his cabinet when most citizens realize the boat is sinking. And, if the government isn’t into making a profit, why is the IRS a militant organization? Somehow our goverment has become the monarchy of England’s past. I suppose the IRS would be comparable to the king’s brute squad to collect.
Forgive me slipping away from the topic of the day…
Tangents seem to run rampant nowadays.
It deters people who have a fear they will be caught.
The problem is most people who commit crimes where the death penalty would come in to play either do it in a fit of rage when don’t care what the repercussions for their actions are, or they try to plan it out so they won’t be caught.
The only thing the death penalty does is keep everyday law-abiding citizens fearful, which doesn’t do a lot of good.
That aside, if anyone really thought this post was about the death penalty, you’re retarded. It’s obviously just a segway for V to say she would kill a whole lot of motherfuckers if she had the opportunity.
That’s Buffett with two F’s and two T’s. Let’s give misspellers the death penalty, too.
Deterence simply doesn’t work with the criminal mind set.
Where I live, there is a car chase on the news almost every night.
This puzzled me for a long time. Why do these people run? How do they thnk they are going to get away from multiple helicopters and 50-100 cops?
And they’re surely going to prison for multiple felonies. Just have the jury watch all of the news tapes-verdict: guilty.
So I was greatly relieved when the newspaper ran a story by a reporter who had interviewed many of the perps in car chases. At last I would have my answer.
The reporter stated that approximately 80% of the criminals told him that they ran because they thought that they would get away.
The interviews were ALL conducted in prisons.
That post made no sense.
VA,
I still check your site each day and am atleast mildly amused by what I read. However, your site was much more captivating back when you were bashing specific people. i.e. mommybloggers… dooce, sweetney, etc. Pick on an individual atleast every once in awhile so that we know who to point our finger at and laugh.
@ bespeckled: you’re dumb.
well, maybe you’re not (but i’m not a betting man) but your thoughts sure are.
obviously an american, to have no concept of life outside your little village…and what makes up for the majority of random violence in the world.
it’s not the soccer mom’s, the drunk drivers, or the abused masses -
they’re just the ones who get the air time.
don’t presume you have any knowledge of what’s going on outside in the real world - they don’t show that on the fox network.
thats was just to good, come on give V some inmunity and then bring her to our “emerging countries”, I bet she can reduce poverty by 90% in the main cities in just a few weeks LOL
While I’m sure the post was written in jest, it does make some bad arguments. For example, the only alternative to the death penalty is NOT “complete immunity” as you request. What if you were given a machine-gun, and told that the punishment for killing anyone is life. (Strange irony there — you get a life for a death!) Would you still kill 70% of the American population? Would you kill anyone at all??
I don’t think so!
Hey Violent Acres, remember suicide is not penalized, so go ahead!
I think only politicians and government employess should face the death penalty. This should be done if they violate the rights of US citizens as defined in the Bill of rights or fail to uphold their oath to the US consitution…Such as launching an unprovoked war (executive branch) or (legislative branch)failing to do your consitutional duties by not debating a major troop deployment to foreign lands (what any reasonable person whould consider a war) and in a moment of fear and hysteria, giving the executive branch permission to do anything they damn well please. They then wait until it is a disaster and all of a sudden want to start debating things!!! Incredible…they should all be hung from lamposts like Mussolini. If they thought the gullotine hung over their heads they would undoubtably make very careful…welll thought out decisions.
I’m against the death penalty because the government is incompetent and can’t handle the responsibility…just look at the center for wrongful convictions and that is about all you need to know. As far as detering crime…the only thing thing that deters crime is gun ownership. Everybody knows by the time the cops arrive it is too late for prevention and deterence. This should be obvious to any two year old. If you are looking for the government to save you I can only say…hahahahahahahahaha.

…even if there was no law against murder, it wouldn’t make everyone go on a murderous rampage. Rules are enforced by the most powerful in society. The police force/army is the most powerful ‘gang’ in any develloped nation. No matter what the organised crime group is, in a nation like the USA, Canada, England etc, the government controlled forces would kick ass. If the Gov forces were to disappear or turn a blind eye to murder for example, the next strongest force would enforce their law.
Which in our society would just as well outlaw murder.
Think, some freak with a gun kills your grandmother ’cause she’s one of those annoying fucks we all hate. But she’s your grandmother, and since you have a gun too, mr. granny-killer’s gonna have his/her ass handed. There’ll never exist a world without repricussions.
Good to see everyone is/is agreeing on everything today.
Ready for some real chez: There is no I in team.
but there is a me and an am and an et and an at
and of course and mt or a tm… te…ta…em
Good work folks… keep up the teamwork.

VA is my new idol. We need to team up and make our own country, get diplomatic immunity, and make this happen. The world is overpopulated and most people are idiots. It’s time to thin the population and clean up the gene pool.
Where do you people get this “overpopulated world” crap? The land mass of the world is ~36 billion acres, of which around 6.6 billion is usable (18%, according to CIA fact book). Population - ~6.6 billion. That means that every man, woman and child in the world could have 6 acres of land (out of which 1 would be habitable). Not overcrowded at all, at least IMO.
I thought I read somewhere that as far as human population, somewhere around 9.5 billion would be a bit of a saturation point… but there’s always technology and, of course, building ‘up’ instead of ‘out’. The question becomes lifestyle sustainability. The whole world can’t live the ‘american dream’. I agree with Shadowbird we just need to innovate a new dream and get the rest of the world to join in.
