The very first thing I’ve learned about this small business affair is if you mention you’re starting one, every single person you know will morph into Debbie Downer right before […]
Original post: Starting a Small Business: Lesson 1

Reminds me of the phrase, “Una salus victis nullam sperare salutem.”
Reminds me of the phrase: “Fuck Debbie Downer.”
You know, since I am not reminded of phrases in dead languages very often.
25% of new businesses succeed past five years?
Those are pretty good statistics, actually. If I knew I had a 1:4 chance of succeeding at anything I tried, I’d be pretty happy. Means I’d only have to try 4 times (at most!) to get it right. ;) That’s a lot better than the statistics of effectively tying my shoes, lately. Har.
Sounds like V is going for broke… Hell yeah!
@3
Where did you get 25% It looks like 10% to me.
She changed it from 75% to 90%, I guess she went back and did some fact checking.
I’m glad that even when she gives up on the website, she still will give us interesting articles like this. Female masturbation was interesting, but this is both interesting and informative.
VIOLENTACRES LOOK AT THIS!!!!!
i want to know what violentacres thinks of juliana wetmore
http://www.julianawetmore.net/
she was born with out a face!
no really, i’m not making that up. her toug just sort of hangs out and her eyes bulge and i don’t know if she’s mentally astute or, um, special but she can’t hear properly, since she has no freaking skull and she sinuses sre messed and she can’t eat except through tubes…ahh and she’s something to look at
PREVENTING MENPAUSE
http://www.preventingmenopause.com/
i want to know what V thinks of preventing it, anyone should take a look if they want because apperently doctors haven’t studied it since the 1940s and even then they didn’t use the right hormons…i sorta want to keep my figure forever, so i’m all for assuming i don’t get a tumor or anything like that, i am too lazy to find V’s email but i like her site…sometimes…
Business is scary but you’re right, you have to go for things in life. By the way I love the term Debbie Downer.
If the failure rate is high, the fact should put some people off. If there is a high failure or difficulty rate, if you dont know why, you probably shouldnt be doing whatever it is. Chances are, whoever the VA person is, if theyre betting all in, chances are it isnt a busted flush.
I do take exception about the whole fear thing and being a warrior, however. I am afraid of all kinds of stuff, yet I will bet on me every time. Being afraid of heights didnt stop me from having over 100 jumps in the military. My SGT in training asked me about that once. He said ‘Boy, you afraid of heights, how in the hell you gonna be a paratrooper?!’. My reply was simple ‘If I cant work around my fear of heights, how will I ever get over my fear of bullets to be infantry?’.
I was talking to some chick out at a bar, who had told me she was considering going to grad school for clinical psychology. Not sure if you are aware of the numbers, but its far easier to get into med school, take psychiatry as a residency and make monster ducats than it is to get into and get through grad school. She replied with a really well thought out examination of that circumstance, presented her plan to address the difficulties and convinced me that any concern I had was misplaced. I then proceeded to STFU and we had a lovely discussion.
You know, after going through some entrepreneurial resources and sites, I came across the Spirus Group (http://www.spirusgroup.com/), and they seem to have found a solution to many of the classic problems faced by would-be entrepreneurs. Specifically, they help you do all the initial development work for your company while you are still at your current job (business plan, hiring, real estate planning, suppliers, etc.) Seems like the right approach to give a business idea a chance to succeed while keeping the risk relatively low. It looks like they can also help with fundraising and a few other things. Worth checking out.
