VA: Self Imposed Insomnia
Jul 28th, 2008
They called me on a Saturday.
“Please come and get her,” they said, “Please. There’s no one else.”
I turned to my husband. “Absolutely not,” he said.
But when they opened up the […]

And this is a dog we are talking about?
Or is V (Hollie) a foster parent? how would that be possible - is Ohio that bad off?
More old news. I would link to the article where she complained about foster parenting class and how they’ll let pretty much anyone take care of abused children, but she’s deleted that update for some reason.
I thought it was pretty well-known by everyone here that V fosters. How else would she come in contact with so many children?
I do sort of remember that, but cannot quite beleive that she is a foster parent to humans…She does do foster pet care too (for shelters) and perhaps this ambiguous post was a way of acknowledging her new business on some level?
I sure hope she’s talking about a dog. I hate to think of anyone in that condition, but a child in that state… even more horrible.
I’d say it’s a dog. “If only she could talk”. But the movie part was a bit strange. A dog doesn’t know when a movie ends.
‘If only she could talk’ could be a child too young to talk or a disabled child. She did tell her friend to ‘bring the kids’ to the park. My vote is it’s a child. If you read her ‘training children’ series, at the end, she makes note of the fact that she has used the techniques on children with great success. She even says she used them on ‘puppy kickers and fire starters’ which explains a lot if these are troubled kids who have been taken from their homes.
Also, if she is a foster parent, it would definitely explain why she wants to remain anonymous and why she doesn’t want people to track her down. She’s probably thinking if she comes into contact with a crazy internet nut, it will traumatize the kids.
Rather than retread over the “kid vs dog” and does she foster conversation, I’d like to mention that you should NEVER hide under a tree in a storm. People die that way. Lightning strikes trees.
Two in my town were struck this way last week. 1 dead, 1 critical:

Does anyone else remember that she still owes us a picture???
Enna - Technically, she actually doesn’t as she did not raise her goal of 10k.
And given that she still keeps trying to hide her identity (though poorly) I doubt she’ll humor us and do it anyway.
V, thanks for posting. And best love to the little one who needs it.
After all the shit she went through childhood and teens, I would be surprised if she DIDN’T foster. Considering all the charity she does, gives further proof of the fact that she just HAS to help the helpless.
And about the kid not talking, most traumatic experiences can make children very silent autistic like. Or maybe the kid IS autistic.
I hope everything turns allright.
Note: Huddling under a tree during a thunderstorm is a really, REALLY bad idea. Other than that, I’m happy the kid is safe.
I am convinced that she’s talking about a child here. This story made me weepy. V - Good luck! I can only admire you for opening your home like that, how you prepared/are preparing it for her and welcomed her to be part of it.
Oh please, you guys are suckers. She’s making the story up.
Roxy. Since I am fully aware that you have already succesfully trolled your way to the destruction of another popular blog (originaljada), may I request that you please try to be little less painful on this one?
Thanks.
“Waaaa, everyone’s ragging on me. What should I do? Oh, I know, I’ll write a post that will make them feel bad for daring to say anything negative about someone as great as Iiiiiiiiiiiii am. That will show them!”
” Since I am fully aware that you have already succesfully trolled your way to the destruction of another popular blog (originaljada), may I request that you please try to be little less painful on this one?”
Umm, no. If she can’t take the heat, she can get out of the kitchen.
qwe, people stay fairly still to watch a movie, after the movie ends people get up, turn off the dvd player, put the popcorn bowl in the dishwasher, and other stuff, if it’s a dog that’s been badly abused, sudden (or even not-so-sudden) movement will scare the CRAP out of it. but I think the reason why V has made it hard to tell is because it makes NO difference if it’s a child or dog, who would treat a dog any differently than a child? they still need to be loved, cared for and protected. It’s a life that been abused, no matter what body it resides in.
“It’s a life that been abused, no matter what body it resides in.”
That’s absolutely correct. And made up or not, it’s touching, more power to ya V. I see why you say such bad things about your commentors…some really don’t get it at all.
I don’t see why it matters whether she’s making it up or not. What exactly are the consequences for you either way? She’s not a journalist and you’re not basing life or death decisions on what she’s saying.
If you enjoy books, you know that sometimes fiction can be more true than reality.
Also, stop defending V. She can take care of herself, and it’s not like she’s got time to care about what someone has to say about her over the internet (Judging by the lack of posts these past few months).
Why does it matter to you why it matters to me?
#22: If the work is defined by the author as fiction, then well it’s fiction. If the author makes up stories and passes them off as real to make himself or herself look like a saint, then well it’s something different. I personally don’t like it when people do that, because it undermines my faith in humanity or whatever’s left of it.

I used to think v was making it all up, but we now have proof of her pet care/fostering and thru some creative googling I found evidence of her work at a social service agency - so perhaps she is truly a foster parent.
That said, I am most impressed that she does all this at the age of 28 (allegedly).
“Oh please, you guys are suckers. She’s making the story up.”
I’ve followed V’s stuff for awhile now, this is her second blog I’ve read. For her to take the time to make stuff up assumes that she cares what others think–I’m pretty sure she doesn’t give a flying fuck, but I could yet be wrong. OR she’s practicing creative writing, if she IS making it up, perhaps for a class? At any rate, why the fuck do you care what she thinks or what others think of her?
“For her to take the time to make stuff up assumes that she cares what others think–I’m pretty sure she doesn’t give a flying fuck, but I could yet be wrong. ”
She wants people to read her blog to generate money. End of story. Writing about how her mother abused her growing up makes people read her blog and generates money. Writing about how she managed to overcome the cycle of abuse and now fosters other abused children makes people read her blog and generates money. It also makes some people forgive her for being an asshole and keep reading her blog. Don’t fool yourself. This is all about the money.
And thanks to me and you (PAB), she generates between 500 - 2500 USD pm.
Cry me a river.

Naw, really? I never would have guessed it’s about the money!
I’m hardly fooling myself. I read her blog because it entertains me. If her entertaining me makes her money without me having to pay her for it? All the more power to her. So she’s an asshole? So what? So are you, so am I, and so is 99.9% of the human race. At least she recognizes she’s an asshole and wholeheartedly admits it.
OMG, reading her blog makes her some money??
Like… reading Stephen King’s books make him some money too? Or buying a magazine? Or even checking books out from the library cause they had to buy the book too which then goes back to the author in a roundabout way?
Imagine that, someone writing for money. What a novel fucking concept (pardon the pun).
Funny how quickly things are taken out of context on this forum, all #27 was saying that, in a roundabout way, V does care what people think of her and her blog, because they generate her revenue, so she’ll consider them when writing and will post whatever keeps them coming back.
That said, I’d keep reading an asshole’s blog if it was entertaining, case in point: Maddox. So why V would need the extra effort so that “some people forgive her for being an asshole and keep reading her blog”, I have no idea. Unless she ran out of things to snark about, then yeah, a touching story is the right way to retain the readers. I guess. I’d be bored quickly, though.
…and the reason why you didn’t call the child protection agency on the third day already was…?
It’s a dog folks.
