VA: Potential Prize for the Charity Challenge
Feb 11th, 2008
Alright. I’ve whined and procrastinated enough. It’s time for me to cowboy up and get my Birthday Charity Challenge going.
As of right now, not only do I need a proper […]
Original post: Potential Prize for the Charity Challenge

I thought V wanted to maintain her anonymity… A change of heart?
Maxine… it might just be a picture of her body. Not her face. That was she maintains her anonimity.
Before I was curious to know what she looked like. But now that her mom has found her… I think it’s better if she protects herself and not post a picture.
1. Money = shit.
You buying our love? Can’t make anything yourself? Or just can’t be bothered? Easier to give money? Keep it, as you seem to value it more than effort.
2. Picture of V ruins the blog. It’s better as a mystery.
Can anyone say “Friends” was even half-amusing after that Schwimmer guy and Aniston got together? (Whatever their role-names were.) When my sister was watching the series on sunday mornings, I might’ve sat on the couch for a while after getting a cup of coffee when it was on, but after the tension between the two was gone, it was all shite and I continued straight forward back to my computer.
Besides, it would mean I can’t read about these freaks trying to figure out her identity.
I’d vote for this option: Do something creative and give that as a gift.
Like this pic for a friend of mine that I tried to make look like 1800’s washed out photograph on a wet-and-dried paper:

I think that as far as the charity portion of the contest goes, V might be the type that would be interested in helping people help themselves, and us helping clean up the messes we’ve made in this world. So in case she reads this, here’s a few links that might be of interest. I highly recommend them all.

Hey, put up a picture of yourself like I do showing all your scabs and stuff. People love that.

#4 Miaux Cat: Yes! I like you already!
That is very good. Instead of giving one random reader some gift, put some money in charity of our choice. Instead of that poll, make a poll of these four links Miaux Cat provided and we choose where V puts the $500.
Yes! I give you 25 000 points and two thumbs up, Miaux Cat.
I vote for ASPCA. VA, you said (or at least I seem to remember that you did) you volunteer/donate your time to your local animal shelter, or something very much like it. My dog got killed last night: I took her for a walk after I got home from school (work 8 to 5pm; traffic from 5 to 6pm; school 6 to 9:30pm) without a leash as usual and she was run over by a car crossing the street chasing a street cat. She knows she shouldn’t cross the street without me, and when she realized that she was on the other side, she hurried to run back and was run over by a car that was driving way, way too fast in my little street. I’m completely devastated and don’t know what I should do, but I’m trying to hold myself together and taking my dog’s things to the local shelter. Food, treats, leash, and other sundry items. I live in an apartment so it’s not like I could get another dog, not that I would want one any time soon. I feel like a terrible human being, not leashing her, not training her well enough, not being smart enough to know that she didn’t know better.
ASPCA, or some other sort of animal/humane society, please.
Definitively the picture, leave the mysteries to Lost (I hate that show), I WANT TO KNOW HOW THE FUCK V LOOKS LIKE.
We will never know what VA looks like. She wants to be anonymous and a mystery.
Thanks Sami. I personally try to donate once a month to one of those places. It’s not much each time, but it means a lot to me, and I’m sure it means a lot to them. Also, I really like when you know the money is actually going to the cause and not to the company who sponsors it.
Acidspit- I’m so sorry about your loss. It must be so terribly heartbreaking. Try not to blame yourself, I know you can easily fall into a dark place that way. Try to focus on celebrating her life and what she meant to you (and what you meant to her as well). It’s a great sign of your character that you’re thinking of other animals in your time of sorrow. That’s a great idea about the shelters. They never can get enough of what they need. I especially like to focus on no-kill shelters, they seem to have it harder because of their mission to save every single life they take in.
#10 Miaux Cat: …Sorry to advertize on someone else’s blog response site… But Miaux Cat, check my friend’s blog out.

*crossing fingers*
I promise I won’t add links again.

Ok so anyone who picked anything other than $500 is a worldclass idiot! It looks like voting ended and the stupid picture won. Wow, I rather have that to make fun of than spendable CASH. Ugh. Anyways I took the charity thing seriously since that’s what it’s all about and did some research at charitynavigator.org. Apparently quite a few popular charities have founders, presidents, director or CEO.. whatever they want to call themselves.. who actually get compensated! I find this disheartening. Sure, there are program costs and administrative.. but an actual salary?
I was about to nominate the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinsons Research when I saw that the CEO made $340,534 and the actual charity grossed $8 grand for the year. Pretty expensive for all that “awareness” they provide. However I still think it’s a good cause so I would like to nominate that for consideration, and also the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp which helps children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.

I want to see v - face, body and all and at her current age - not at age 4 or something.
I was going to say http://www.donorschoose.org, but then I read Miaux Cat’s suggestion about donating to no-kill shelters (careful about doing that in person…I swear they teach kittens to crawl into your bag and give you *that look*, and that’s how we got Chloe). Miax Cat’s idea is a wonderful one, as is the advice to acidspit—I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I can’t imagine how heartbroken you must be. If she was trying to run back to you, she loved you—she wouldn’t want you to blame yourself. I know that doesn’t help; nothing will for a long time.
#12 Anna Potatoes: Oh, Anna Anna Anna… Money money money…
Anyone who picked the $500 is a high-class whore.
Does this blog have an ‘ignore Sami’s posts’ feature somewhere?
#16 Hoodmonkey: Yes, there is. Several ways.
1. Completely ignoring the person / asking to stop / voting to stop. - Most of the cases this will work, since no-one wants to scream at a wall forever. However, as I have a superiority-complex, it may not work on me.
2. Asking the webmaster to block the IP address of an abusive user. Usage of the word “whore” can be concidered abusive. Also, posting for the fifth time on the same topic may be concidered spamming. Although this method may not be that effective, since:
3. Just biting your lip and waiting for couple of weeks. I’m switching to a new job where I have to actually work and will have no time to reply to most of my usual forums. I do not post from home, so that should not be a problem anyways.
4. This is the most effective: Read through a list of argument fallacies. My arguments have holes you can fly a Boeing through. Knocking a person down will affect his ego and will shut him up. That’s two flies with one hit. Shutting someone up and destroying his ego.

LOL @ Hoodmonkey

Sami Sami Sami, if only self-esteem could be bought, I would buy you some. I have no idea how money suddenly became a “whore’s prize” but since it’s a mute point.. I hope it’s a fantastic shot of V and you’re all horribly disappointed!
Personally I think V should raise money for the ACLU. I mean, people like her is who they defend. They don’t tend to need to defend people that just go with the flow, those people are boring.
Miaux the Cat and Gossamer1013, thank you for your sentiments. It’s been really difficult the last few days but it gets better little the little, day the day. But the apartment is eerily quiet and I’ve been sleeping at my grandmother’s. I think of her at odd times but I’m trying not to be so weepy.
I’m really shocked that people opted to see V’s photo. Really?! Wouldn’t you rather take the $500 and go buy… stuff? Very few pictures are worth giving up $500, and with all due respect, V’s picture is not worth that.
#19 Anna Potatoes: Excellent answer! Using the same form of speech as my last reply, and twisting the false-self-esteem around!
I bow to you and apologize the usage of the word “whore”. I do not like to use such language. As an explanation, it was written using Newton’s third law applied from physics to this. Worldclass idiot vs. high-class whore, you know.
(Btw… You could’ve pushed a bit harder and point out the hypocricy of me having a “make donation” button available and bashing money at the same time. But I guess that would’ve been shooting fish in a barrel.)
