Oh, and as far as the story goes: Both sides were impolite. Either side showing some common courtesy would have averted the drama.

Then of course, we wouldn’t have heard about the story.

No one wants to hear about my day where the person at the register of the fast food place screwed up my order, but I just ignore it. Hey, I’ll take this instead, it costs the same and I like it too.

Or the time where I went into a restaurant, received poor service, and just left a smaller tip than ordinary.

Or the times where the clerk had a customer who was horribly impolite, and the clerk smiled and wished her a good day. And then grumbled about her when she was gone.

The extra three cents was not the cause of her going in, it was just a detail. She was mopey and didn’t feel like moving, but the extra $0.03 meant that she had to reach into her car and get the nickel.

She had to go in either way, but the fact that it was $15.03 was why it should have been relatively convenient for the clerk to determine which pump she was on. She had assumed that not many of the other pumps would have shown up with that exact amount.

And as far as “being a soldier” it was more the fact that she didn’t stay home and mope,… no, she went out and did her errands. It just meant she was cranky while doing them.

I’m with the group on the attendant’s side for the most part. Finger wagging isn’t cool, but the first and second time weren’t really any worse than most gas station attendants. I completely agree with those who pointed out her touting being a “soldier,” then using the sickness as a reason for being a bitch.

I was confused about the logistics of this story too. I’ve only ever pumped my own gas, but it was always, always, always prepaid. And what was the deal with the extra 3 cents? She wanted to pump $15 exactly, but she over shot by 3 cents, so she had to go in? That doesn’t make sense. Also, who can actually pump their gas to the cent?

I suppose a bad-ass bitch who’s beautiful, successful, and well-reared, yet tough as nails and has just enough of a bad childhood to make her sympathetic.

Look. Your vagina is whining and crying about how some old “hag” was rude to you becasue of your incompetence. Well I don’t know what planet you live on, but where I’m from there has to be a connection between the pump and the car. You could have told her what your car looks like (assuming she could see it). Imagine for a minute you were the old lady, and some woman driver (bad enough) walks in without knowing the pump number. Honestly, I would laugh harder if the old lady had blogged about the “dumb PMSing bitch who I owned over the loudspeakers”. Grow up, and place the blame where it deserves: on you. Maybe you need to live in Oregon where they by law have to pump the gas for you.

When you work as a customer service (and the old lady was), it is easy to get pissed off by small things. Specially when the customer only has to do 2 things. Get the pump number and the money. That´s it.

It´s not hard.

Being sick is no excuse. All you have to do is remember a number.

And, if being sick was your excuse, we should probably hear her side of the story.
Maybe she was angry because noone remembers her pump number.

Anyway, annoying customers suck. Too bad you have to put a smile and treat them like they are humans in order to get their money.

Well, I live in Europe and we do pump our own gas here. I’ve never been to a station where they would do it for you.

I would be embarassed if I would need someone else to fill the gastank for me.

@anski: Yes, there are. It really depends on where you live. In my state, pay beforehand is the rule in the cities, where people would piss their pants if you so much as point a finger at them. In the sticks it’s so rare that you can usually just go to another station to avoid the hassle.

I live in New Jersey and we don’t pump our own gas, in fact the attendant looks nervous if you get out of your car…

So when I was reading this, I kept thinking: pumps have numbers?
