V, that is such a great charity! Thanks for doing the whole birthday challenge, even if it didn’t raise the full amount.

The starting bid is $10k USD. She’s trying to rip people off by saying that guest post crap was accepted just the same as the normal posting. Also, it’s assumed that some random new owner would be able to maintain the same level of post quality and traffic.
Also something about trying to turn those of you who subscribe into a “direct mailing list”. So yeah, your email address is being sold to some spammer webmaster who is going to send you bullshit email.
The auction lists screenshots of web stats and monthly checks from AdSense ect, which are hosted on violentacres.com.. so that pretty much proves it. But I guess if you’re a fucking moron, you won’t believe it until ‘ViolentAcres’ starts spamming you with ringtone offers.

Hey, there’s nothing for V to go to hell for - it’s her site to sell. Sucks to see her go, but oh well. It’s the same thing as building a startup from the ground up, then selling it to a larger company. Of course, who would pay a minumum of 10K for a site that may or may not generate 12K a year, minus the upkeep, minus the fee V plans to charge for her posts, all that in the middle of a recession… sounds like an “extremely” crappy investment to me, so good luck finding buyers. Funny how she calls it a blog after all… finally, the truth comes out.
If truth be told, after you’ve told every one of your life stories and ranted on every subject that makes you tick, there isn’t much else for you to say to your readers. Just about every blog I’ve known has either folded or started repeating itself after the first couple of years. V is no exception, who woulda thought.
You can click that down thumb all you want, but that’s what happened and guess what, life goes on.

You guys are silly. I go to VA for entertainment. If anything, I use her…as opposed to her using me. I don’t know why some of you guys think she ever thought of you all as ‘more.’ Especially when she doesn’t allow comments on her site, doesn’t even ACCEPT emails (Let alone responds to them) and (outside of Myroid,) has never said jack to anyone. Correct me if I’m wrong, but that doesn’t seem like someone who really ‘cares’ about her readers as individuals.
Not that it matters to me, I got a solid 2 years of free entertainment out of it!
Why doesn’t she keep running it and donate the ad revenue to charity? If she makes 500-2000 a month she should be able to reach the 10,000 goal pretty quickly.

The last bidder (and presumed winner.. the only other bidder is me) is a known spammer and he will litter your inbox with ringtone offers and viagra ads, in the form of ‘posts’ that try, but fail to convey the emotional marketing that the original author used to direct the ‘traffic’ in the first place.

What did I make up? Everything I’d said is verifiable, although Alex Zimmer later clarified that his company paid $35k for the site and $10k for a year of posts from whoever is currently writing the site.

Regardless, he confirmed:
1) The site has switched hands.
2) The previous author has agreed to post for another year.
3) The total price paid was $45,000 USD, sent in two checks.
4) The recipient was one Patrick Toner of Ravenna, Ohio.

Maybe she desperately needs the money for the business she talked about earlier.

Hey. That site says that there are no accepted bids for the auction. And that the auction ended and the reserve price wasn’t met.
So, hoodmonkey, how do you know what you know? Just asking.
I’ve sold a few sites on SitePoint before, and they all ended outside of the system so it never officially listed a winner. And since I bid on violentacres.com it showed me who else bid and I made an intelligent guess (look that one up, MyRoids) and knew alexzimmer probably won it.
I talked to some indian at their office who told me the ‘wheels were in motion’ and the site was already sold.
Anyway, I don’t care anymore. I just wanted the images of the kids taken down because I, and other people thought it was harmful. I’ve always thought whoever wrote the blog was really fucking brilliant, and it’s a shame that the blogs being turned over to someone who is just going to destroy it.

If you donated to this charity you may want to do some research. They aren’t the ONLY emergency shelter in the Phoenix area, as they are misinforming people. They are in fact the largest but they have about 8 kids TOTAL in care (and have had for some time)…so don’t let the “largest” and licensed for 42 fool you. If you are giving money to them you may want to ask what it is going to? How many kids do you have? How many did you have last month or total last year?
Don’t get me wrong, the idea of this charity is much needed. However, this particular organization is VERY poorly ran and their priorities aren’t where they should be-which is on the children. The money is spent on lawsuits that staff file, staff office supplies so they can have new chairs and desks, etc. They are recruiting money telling you and other donors they have the “largest” campus and that they are the “only” emerency shelter and that they can serve 42 children. They need to spend time and money focusing on the children and the great needs they have!!! If they did 1/2 of what they tell the public they do they would be a FAR better buisness!!!
