Well, if that guy friend of yours had that kind of insight at age 15 it’s no wonder that you had a crush on him.
What’s wrong with Michigan??
Just kidding V, once again, excellent post!
I have to disagree with V’s use of the word asshole because this post acts like being an asshole is a bad thing. Lets go back to an earlier VA post…the one about if you don’t have the balls to be hated you can’t be loved. For me, those excessively nice always bending to please ball-less wonders are the assholes. Those of us willing to say honest things, that VALUE people who give us shit because it puts us in our place…those are the good people that I want to surround myself with, but society and the internet deems us assholes in a negative way. I have read the comments that call V all those names, and it is because she invokes that reaction that I deem her interesting enough for me to want to have a beer with.
Let’s reclaim the word. Being an asshole should be valued and celebrated! And V, when you want to have a beer with someone that will give you as much shit as you give, and will be doing it for their own entertainment just as much as you are doing the same…you just let me know.
I released the Flash game “Millie and the Stolen Sword” about a month ago. What folllows are some shining examples of human nature from the fellows at Fark.com:
“That’s the gayest thing since gay came to gaytown. ”
“This game SUCKS. Never release it. You don’t like when your parents show pictures of you in 5th grade acting like an idiot. Why do it to yourself by puking this stuff out? It’s ok. Just hold it in. This is a steaming pile of shiat”
“i’m going to go take a dump on my carpet now and play with that. because that would be more fun than this abortion of a game.”
“this is queer like a football bat see all the other posts above, screw the submitter, the mod who greenlit this shiat should diaf and have all fark abilities revoked.”
How can you hurt someone’s feelings if your comments are so… stupid? Queer as a football bat?
Either way, they lose. I have a sponsorship deal now.
Digg buttons make people assholes. Gadzooks. VA makes Digg like every flippin day. Even CNET doesn’t do that.
Is there a difference between asshole and fucktard?
I have a personal definition of fucktard but I don’t know
if it matches up with yer’all definition of fucktard.
anyway…
so is there a ‘good game’ and a ‘bad game’ within human nature?
if so what’s what?
unfettered freedom without self control regardless of consequence vs. unfettered freedom with emphasis and focus on self control…?????
If human nature makes you an asshole, can the asshole be tamed but still consider itself to be free?
hmmmm…
I hope so.
See… i’m exploring the realm of caging or controlling my ‘human nature’ physically and yeah, i’m and asshole but only @ blog posts. otherwise old em’ is a model citizen. don’t believe me, ask my human friends and acquainted people natural assholes.
You just blew my mind. It will forever be gelatinous goo.
Nice one. Got me thinking how can I believe that people are good in general and that the internet, videogames, money and fame don’t make them jerks. I guess for now I figure it’s upbringing that I blame:]
Rap and MTV is to blame. It’s the Devil’s work!!!!!
i know you two were kidding, but what always gets my goat is when people say things like MTV & video games spawn violence - and that recent generations are especially vicious…
like ghengis khan, hitler and the spanish inquisitors all had play stations or something?
just adding a peeve.
Actually people’s *choices* are what make them assholes, not “human nature” (unless you say making choices is part of human nature, but if you mean *unchangeables* then NO), not the Internet, none of that, but free will. And that also means there is free will to CHANGE.
You said in your article that “If you really desire to grow and evolve as an individual, it’s best to glean what you can from the negativity….and chuck the rest.” But “growing and evolving as an individual” is *impossible* in your view because Human Nature(TM) means *everyone* is bad and *cannot be* any other way!
What I hate the most is not being told I am responsible for my mistakes, but being told I cannot do anything about them because “human nature” prevents it.
“I have to disagree with V’s use of the word asshole because this post acts like being an asshole is a bad thing.”
Which is really weird considering he says it’s “human nature”. So if it is bad, nothing can be done about it. (Which makes one wonder what the whole point of the concepts of “good” and “bad” really are.)
