1. The majority of folks in jail aren’t there because they got jealous and killed their spouses, they’re there for drug crimes.

2. As for survival, procreation, and being animals:

I think we’re an agressive species, that with enough training and culture we (some of us, at least) overcome it. I think many of us don’t. In the town where I own a home, the kids raise themselves, and loiter, deal drugs, rob people at gunpoint, and turf murder is common.

Just today, a few towns down, some woman committed suicide by train. She waited out of sight, stepped in front at the last minute, waved goodbye. We can obviously overcome the survival instinct.

And while I’m a huge fan of sex, I have no interest in reproducing, and actually joke with my BF that if he knocks me up and for some awful reason, I end up having it, I’m skipping the country, but I’ll send child support. We don’t ALL want to be mommies, no siree, not at all.

I guess we’re not quite as ruled by instincts as you’d like to think.

Evolving is not that slow with humans. And as we do have the largest brain of all animals, we need to develop them. A lot of energy goes to the development of the brain, so the physical development is naturally slower.

But humans are not animals. I mean statistics tell us that a child is most likely killed by a family member when a woman remarries with small children, and the new husband kills the kids. Animals don’t do that. Just look at lions. When the king lion is killed or thrown aside, the new alpha-male will take tender care of the old king’s cubs. …no wait! He eats the young in order for his genes to survive, and his only! Dagnabbit!
