V, what’s the infatuation with pedophiles these days??? Usually you jump around from subject to subject, but you’ve been hittin’ the pedophile angle pretty hard recently?
“Peedofile” seems to be the accepted pronunciation in Britain, so probably other Europeans pick it up and use it when speaking English.
Although I do not like the paedophilia-advertizement in media, still the jail sentences are a joke in Finland for paedophiles. Finland doesn’t really concider paedophilia as a sickness, therefore there’s no need to cure it.
Recent news from Finland:
There was an incident, where a teacher had abused 6 kids and was facing a massive 10 month (probational) sentence. They found out there wasn’t 6 victims, but ‘only’ 5, so they cut the sentence down to 5 months.
Another incident where they gave 5.5 years for a guy. They justified this enormous sentence that he had, after all, 42 victims aged 8-14 over several years of abuse.
Where as this lady suffering from mental illness tried to burn down her own home and she got 1 year in jail without possibility to probation.
So if you visit Finland, only do damage to people, not to anything that can be measured in Euro.

Seriously though, I think the guy was just misinterpreting the word. “phile” meaning a love/affinity towards, and “philiac” meaning an awkward affection towards.

I suspect what the poor guy was actually trying to say was that he doesn’t like how it’s no longer socially acceptable for normal men to have normal, loving physical contact with kids without getting viewed as a pedophile.
And I suspect that V is fully aware of that and was just trying to make the story interesting.
What really surprises a lot of people from other countries is that the word pedophile is used for cases which don’t deserve it. Sex with prepubescent children is a serious crime and should be handled as such. However, calling 22 year old men pedophiles for having 15 year old girlfriend is ridiculous. Few foreigners understand America’s high ages of consent law. Age of consent should be around 14, and the word pedophile only used against those who deserve it.
A 22 year old guy having a relationship with a 15 year old girl isn’t right either. I wouldn’t call him a pedophile, but he seriously needs some help if he wants someone with that much of a maturity level difference.
