This morning, I woke up fairly early because I had planned to take my dog hiking. My dog, sensing that I had something planned, followed me around the house, tail […]
Original post: America is Doomed to Fall Because it’s Citizens Lack Basic Survival Skills

Abolish the 2nd amendment? That’ll be the show of shows…
just watch those lame “pretend” survival shows like survivorman or that other show with that bear guy instead of american idol. thats some attempt at teaching people how to survive in the wild. though i do have to say that if things were to completely collapse into chaos, i think southerners would be able to survive much easier than northerners would. you know, that whole barbaric, unkempt, “slow” stereotype we have. plus we know how to find and hunt an animal, not the nearest starbucks. just putting that out there.
as a boy scout, i was always taught to ‘be prepared’. I’m making a career of emergency services, so I’m trained to be able to react in many, many situations. However, it’s true, most people would be dead if our infrastructures were to collapse, or be attacked. I can survive indefinitely in almost any terrain in the country.. and thrive. How many other americans can say the same?
Thanks V!
You’re so right and I agree completely. I’m slowly gaining the skills that I need to survive in the wild, but I’m far from there. I know all about not getting killed and navigating terrain and that kind of thing, but got nothing on how to hunt or forage for food. One step at a time.
You could take up backpacking as a weekend hobby to at least start improving your survival skills.
Between scouting and preparedness classes, I would do OK. I do still need to add some drinkable water, water purification tablets, and potentially a camping stove and fuel to what I already have. The question that sometimes comes up in our preparedness classes is “should I own a gun?” I always think that’s a stupid question. You may need it to hunt or if you have food storage and other resources, to defend yourself.
Another topic that has been brought up frequently over the past couple of years is the potential for a government-imposed quarantine due to mutated bird flu or SARS. How well could you survive for 8 - 12 weeks on only what is in your house?
It’s definitely worth learning how to build a fire (esp. without matches), collect and/or purify water, design a shelter, properly store nonperishable food, etc. You don’t have to go all mountain man and put up 5 years worth of food and water, but a 6-month supply of food and supplies and a 3-week supply of water doesn’t take up as much space as you might think.
If video games have taught me anything it’s to cast spells at random wildlife for cheap laughs. Buck probably had like 10 HP.
and with that post from Myroid the final piece of the puzzle is revealed. Like my new hero Jeff, i can now expose the true and real identity of Myroid…http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1672871
my logic is irrefutable! Myroid plays World of Warcraft. Masturbating guy plays WoW, Therefore, Myroid IS WoW masturbator.
I AM A GENIUS!!!!!
I liked the doggy version of pig Latin: “Ix-nay on the eer-day!”

That couldn’t have been me, there wasn’t any crying involved.
ahh, it just doesn’t get better than rubbing one out using tears as lubricant.
Bravo V!
Great story and I have one comment.
Every once in a while you hear a story here in CA about some lameass that was running loudly and without a care in the world through the mountains and has an unfortunate and sometimes fatal rendezvous with a mountain lion, who usually is female and protecting her young. After every incidence it is the mountain lion who pays the price with death, whether the encounter was fatal to the human or not. This makes me so sick when it is obviously we the humans who are encroaching on the lions’ habitat. We kill the lions so we have a place we can run safely? How about running in the cement infrastructure you insisted you must have, and cleared away all of the mountains to make it so? Kudos to you for recognizing that we absolutely have zero survival skills and it certainly will be part of our downfall, whether caused by something natural (hurricane, earthquake, rogue asteroid, etc.) or terrorists.
V should definitely carry a can of mace & a pocket-knife when she goes running alone… and not just for the wildlife.
Deer can definitely kill people if they get scared, impale a person with their pointy hoofs or antlers.
Then she mentions the dog she thought was a wolf, & it had a collar… is she sure it wasn’t a wolf? They do collar the wolves to track them. (Though I would assume V is smart enough though to see the difference between a radio collar & a regular dog collar).
Sounds like V also needs to pick up copies of

Um…not sure what era V is living in, but knowing whether a buck will attack a human in the mountains isn’t a modern day survival skill.
I’m confused…are we talking about wilderness survival or the corrupt government?
Yes the federal government is corrupt (not to mention every other organization in these United States with any kind of power over anything/anyone), but they haven’t done anything so far that would make me take up my arms and ammunition and storm the Capitol. Bush is a jackass, but I ask you…who the hell would be any better and still have an actual chance at getting in?
In closing, 3 points to take away with you today…
1) Don’t arm yourself and storm the Capitol building
2) The Second Amendment will never be abolished, even if you try #1
3) DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES try to suck venom from a snakebite!!
;-)
Ugh, V….
Great post. As usual V shows her writing chops.
Still looking forward to some satire of that fat redheaded shallow bitch.
I really do like V but in all honesty I think she’s a little off base. But I’m not sure what about. I’m not sure if this was about wilderness survival or the corrupt government. She made and insuation that because she thinks bush is a blathering idiot he couldn’t have handled the situation either. I disagree, he grew up on a ranch, and owns a ranch. I’d be willing he’d survive better than alot of us. I’m not personally worried about myself because hey the army prepared me pretty well and I think there are still enough “good ole boys” left so that we wouldn’t be helpless if our utilites suddenly dissapeared. At least I wouldn’t be. I know I’m one of the few people who think Bush could have done a much worse job, but in reality we can’t leave iraq. It’s been said that those who give up freedom for security deserve neither. But in today’s world there are threats that we, as individuals will never be equipped to deal with, and frankly I have nothing to hide so listen in to me chatting with my wife, hell take a picture of us screwing, what do I care?
I tells ya, James Kim as sad as it all was etc. was a bloody idiot. Then again I had people tell me “well I dont know what a logging road is or looks like!”. How do you not just take the easy way and reverse course to get to the main highway to go to the coast… you be a stupid arrogant “flat lander” and think all roads are passable despite being dirt, over snow covered hills that no one travels on much. Then we had to sit there and listen to CA Sen Fienstein whine about how the road should’ve been labled better or not been so easy to get past the broken chain/roadblock.
i can organize and lead people.
that’s, unfortunately, a skill that’s even more lacking than survival. especially in the government.
without me, most people would be worrying about their own survival. with me, the entire community would survive.
well, all of my friends would, and anyone i see that i like. i don’t care about people that aren’t able to hold their own weight.
but more seriously. there’s a lot more than just an absence of basic survival skills here. the reason there’s an absence of basic survival skills is because there’s an absence of communication, and a lack of an informaiton directory. and with that, there is a lack of community, and a lack of leadership. and with that, there’s a complete absence of advanced survival skills
essentially, even if people wanted to learn survival skills, they have nowhere to turn to without either a) a hell of a lot of effort with the internet and a printer. or b) an expert next door, or c) the boy scouts. but even if the boy scouts can survive, i doubt they can build a stable community from scratch. they’ll still be waiting for someone to take charge, just like everyone else.
